HandShake Factory enables users to create and sign agreements using cryptographic wallet signatures. Under UK law — and in most common-law jurisdictions — a contract does not require any specific medium to be legally valid. If there is offer, acceptance, consideration, and intention to be bound, an agreement can be enforceable whether it is recorded on paper, email, or blockchain.
Cryptographic wallet signatures qualify as a form of electronic signature under the Electronic Communications Act 2000 and the UK eIDAS Regulation, provided they are used to indicate the signer's intention to authenticate the agreement. Because the signature is generated using a private key under the signer's sole control, it provides a strong evidential link between the signer and the signed content.
All contract evidence can be challenged in court, but blockchain records offer a tamper-proof audit trail: once recorded, the data cannot be altered or deleted. This provides clear, time-stamped proof of what was signed and when, which can support enforceability in disputes.
While the underlying technology supports legally valid agreements, enforceability ultimately depends on the content of the contract and the laws of the jurisdiction in which it is used. Users should ensure their agreements comply with any local legal requirements relevant to their specific transaction.
