Digital Permanence Protocol: Glossary of Terms
Definitions of the core concepts behind Handshake Factory — the blockchain permanence protocol for immutable declarations, cryptographic memorials, and permanent on-chain records.
Digital Permanence Protocol
A system for deploying human expression — declarations, memorials, agreements, records — onto a blockchain in a form that is immutable, censorship-resistant, and permanent. Handshake Factory is a digital permanence protocol.
Immutable Declaration
A statement, message, or record deployed on-chain that cannot be altered, deleted, or censored after deployment. Once written to the blockchain, it exists for as long as the network exists.
Cryptographic Memorial
A permanent tribute to a person, event, or idea secured by blockchain mathematics. Unlike physical memorials, a cryptographic memorial cannot be destroyed, defaced, or removed by any authority.
Factory-Template Contract Architecture
The design pattern used by Handshake Factory in which a single on-chain factory contract deploys standardised child contracts from pre-defined templates. This ensures consistency, gas efficiency, and verifiability across all deployed records.
Permanent Records Engine
The underlying infrastructure of Handshake Factory that accepts content, applies encryption where required, and writes it to EVM-compatible blockchains as a permanent, tamper-proof record.
Blockchain Agreement
A smart contract used to record a mutual understanding, commitment, or declaration between parties. On Handshake Factory, blockchain agreements are immutable once deployed and require no central authority to enforce or maintain.
On-Chain Record
Any data written directly to a blockchain's state, as opposed to off-chain storage. On-chain records on Handshake Factory are permanent, publicly verifiable, and distributed across thousands of nodes.
EVM Network
An Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible blockchain. Handshake Factory deploys contracts across multiple EVM networks including Binance Smart Chain, Base, Ethereum, and Avalanche.
Censorship-Resistant
A property of blockchain records meaning no government, corporation, or individual can remove, alter, or suppress the content after it has been deployed. A core guarantee of Handshake Factory.
Digital Sovereignty
The principle that individuals have the right to own, control, and permanently preserve their words and agreements without dependence on any centralised platform or authority.
